The Point.1888

Why we loved the winter “Brands & Retail Conference”

Here at Spotlight.1888 we LOVE brands and retail, so there really isn’t a conference more perfect for our fabulous team to attend.

A first time for team Spotlight to be in attendance AND presenting on both days- it really was a brilliant way to spend two January days! Held at the Wellcome Collection Museum in London on a cold and frosty week.

Day one kicked off to an exciting start with our brand Team GB taking to the stage. We were all captivated by Beth Shriever’s performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which was played on the big screen. Our fantastic licensor Paul Ellis, Head of Retail at Team GB, chatted to Beth and let us in to a little secret, she wants to be on I’m a Celebrity. But maybe not this year, as she is busy preparing for the Paris 2024 Olympics which is only 18 months away. We have worked really closely with Team GB for over 4 years now and are excited to be working on this event and supporting our athletes through this licensing programme.

The afternoon soon came, and Spotlight.1888 Co-Founder Hannah Redler took to the stage to highlight some of The Point.1888’s hottest properties as we step in to a new year. With Sindys big anniversary year (she doesn’t look 60!), to the relaunch of much loved classic Wind in the Willows to bring it to life as Toad and Friends. Then Supa Sema really had the crowd wanting to know more, a brand to empower and inspire kids built on curiosity, creativity and diversity.

Our team then enjoyed watching the highly engaging retail panel debate with John Carolan (Boots), Karen Hewitt (Character.com) and Vicki Radford (ASDA), hosted by longterm Spotlight 1888 partner Julia Redman, before heading to the Ivy for a few drinks with our industry colleagues!

The team really felt that day one was such a huge opportunity to connect, network and present. As a  retail focused brand extension agency in this fabulous industry, and now with our newest business Spotlight.1888 we loved having so many key contacts in one room!

Day Two arrived, and we were ready to share more of our brands with licensees and retailers

Rosanna Cousins, Senior Commercial and Retail Manager of Spotlight 1888 took the stage, taking the opportunity to share updates on some of the lifestyle brands in our portfolio. From Historic Royal Palaces, made up of six of the most wonderful palaces in the world and a top 3 London attraction, this beautiful brand offer endless creative and inspiration.  To Moomin, the much loved and respected publishing brand that has grown hugely in the 3 years since working with The Point.1888 team in the UK. To one of the newer brands to step in to the world of licensing, The Repair Shop, with an exciting year ahead with new products soon to launch at retail.

A busy few days but no better way to kick start the year than amongst other leaders of our industry all looking to grow and support retail and brands in 2023! Thanks so much for having us and we can’t wait for the next one in the Summer.
