The Bake-off tent had a revamp for Easter 2021 and visited The Fungalow last week for Easter celebrations. Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood took the time out of their day this week to come and visit us at The Point and assess our baking talents as we held our first ever Easter Bake-off. And what a success it was!
Despite some disqualifications due to shop-bought bakes (shout out to Saul for his shop-bought cinnamon balls for Passover), and points deducted for half-eaten bakes that make the judging in one piece, the team pulled out all the stops for bake-off this Easter!
We had Easter themed cupcakes, scones, banana muffins, triple chocolate cheesecakes, brownies and more, and whilst the bake-off was held mostly virtually, the judges enjoyed tasting four entrants bakes in person, assessing the others on their two minute explanation of what they had baked and how good it tasted! Everyone got to present their bake, and were given tough questions to answer from our glorious judges…
After much deliberation between our judges, the winner and two runners up were picked.
Our two runners up…Ellen and Amy, for their beautifully bright and colourful Easter bakes! Amy opted for pink and purple mini-egg cupcakes that looked beautifully light and fluffy when she cut them open, whilst Ellen went for a three tier chocolate cake, with a chocolate drip and a fondant icing bunny falling into the cake at the centre!
However, our lovely Olivia stole the show in the end with her triple chocolate brownies. Rich and chocolatey these ‘blow you away’ brownies had Mini Eggs, chocolate chips and Biscoff spread…all the good things in life! Massive well done to Olivia for creating such delicious indulgent brownies, I think its safe to say she was very chuffed with her win!
We had such a fun morning holding this bake-off and a big well done to all entrants (even if their entries were shop-bought!). We cannot wait to all be together again for our next bake-off!
Roll on the next one…maybe Halloween?!
